Reef Runner Boats, a local boat company based out of Opa Locka in Florida, is a no-nonsense, homegrown business. Reef Runner was founded by Donna Milo, the CEO and owner. Milo is a local boater with a history of boating that goes back 50 years. Donna has been a custom home builder for over thirty-seven years, and was also the founder of Blue Marlin Towers, Inc., in the 90’s. She is well-versed in the marine industry. Donna was connected to Dock and Marine, Inc., a Miami-based marine contractor. They asked Donna for a fleet indestructible skiffs. These boats are used to push boats and for work in the marine construction industry. This opportunity was seized and a line to pleasure boats was developed with the same backbone of the work boats Pygmy Boats but with an industry-leading fit and finish.
Reef Runner Boats employs nine people to manage its facility. Reef Runner’s boats are produced under one roof thanks to a highly skilled team of moldmakers, laminators and riggers, many of whom are cross-trained. The lamination and other parts of the build are not sub-contracted to other companies, unlike many manufacturers.
Reef Runner Boats has moved to Opa Locka to build the 32-foot model. This will allow them to expand its fleet of center console boats, which currently includes 14′, 18″ and 21′ models. Donna will tell you it’s not about production and boats. Donna says that you need to look at where you are now and what you have done in the past. You must be grateful but also give back. Reef Runner Boats raised $10,000.00 for Breast Cancer Foundation at Miami International Boat Show. They also plan to raise money for Saint Jude Children’s Hospital by hosting a charity event at the show next year.
