Elbikes for women are typically viewed with skepticism since they provide a helping hand on hills or a sweat-free commute to work, despite the fact that many parts of riding appear to be centered on performance increases. However, riding an electric bike can help you stay in shape.
“You can still push as hard as you like on an ebike, you just have added assistance,” says Tom Bell, cycling coach and elite rider. “So, although it can be used to make climbing and riding in general easier if you want to back off, it’s also possible to put in a lot of effort but just go faster for that effort.”
Researchers at Brigham Young University in Utah back up what Bell says. On both pedal-powered and electric mountain bikes, they monitored the heart rates of expert mountain bikers and confirmed the theory.

The study concluded with the opinion that mountain bikes seem to be an “excellent form of aerobic or cardiovascular exercise, even for experienced mountain bikers who regularly engage in this fitness activity”.
Participants in Utah completed the same research and they find that on average, almost 90% of riders arrived with an elevated heart rate. They used a non-assisted hybrid bike and enjoyed a workout on a moderate level of intensity. The researchers also saw that they “retained the majority of the cycling cardiovascular health benefits,” while using ebikes for women.
In addition, study participants claimed they were more inclined to utilize an ebike for daily transportation, such as cycling to work, than a standard bike.
There’s a Need for e-Bike Fitness
When riders use their e-bikes and balance them, their core strength develops considerably. Ebikes for women are marvelous devices. They are really easy to use. When the rider presses the pedals, a sensor triggers the motor to turn on. How easy is that?
Cycling appears less “daunting” because it is helped by a battery-powered motor. This feature makes it ideal for anyone who is elderly, has heart difficulties, or has lung problems. The bikes are “capable of providing much of the cardiovascular health benefits obtained during conventional bike use.”
That’s not all. They “may help reduce some of the obstacles to conventional bike use, such as increased transportation time, decreased convenience, and physical fatigue”. If people are cycling more instead of sitting in a passenger seat of someone’s car, their health will likely improve.
One case study reveals evidence of a man cycling for 60 minutes without the assistance of an electric motor. He burns 552 calories. Now, if he does the same but uses an ebike he will burn 444 calories. It’s easy to see which bike burns the most calories, but there’s not that much difference between the two. Essentially, anyone using the electric bike, will still lose weight and have the benefits of cardio workouts.
Tom Bell, at the end of the day, says that “Ebikes can help you stay out longer on the bike. Even if the average intensity may be lower, there is a big correlation between ride/training duration and fitness improvement, and a lot of aerobic benefits come from increasing ride duration, not just intensity.” But you be the judge.
